The largest salt
water lake in the Antilles, Lake Enriquillo is located 114 feet
below sea level. At its center lie three islands, the largest of
which is Cabritos Island.
The Cabritos Island is situated
in the Southeast of the country, within Lake Enriquillo and has
an extension of 12 kilometers in length and 2.5 kilometers in its
widest section. Being a protected reserve, the islands are inhabited
by iguanas, f lamingos,
and a significant population of the endangered American crocodile.
Includes the same first two day
excursion to Lake Enriquillo mentioned above for 3 days, 2 nights.
At 6 pm on Day 2, enjoy taking 4 wheelers (8 person capacity) or
bicycles to view the sunset at the Lake Lookout Point (350 meters
high, with constant warm breezes). Enjoy a BBQ dinner and afterwards
dancing to wild Bachata and super fast Merengue music in the "La
Fever Night" Disco. Accommodations are provided at the Maguey
Guest House and bungalows.
The 4 wheelers and bicycles are
not included in this package.
Dia 1.
Excursion leaves Santo Domingo at 8 am arriving in the Cabaña
Turistico Magey Guest House
at 11:30 am. for a welcoming briefing of the area and refreshments.
Then depart for the ecological route to meet the tropical forest
and arrive at the lake for crocodile observation and an hour long
walk through nature. Visitors will also be treated to a tour through
the town and a refreshing bath in the river. A typical lunch will
be served at the Guest House to complement a spectacular view of
Lake Enriquillo. The
afternoon will then be open to free time to seek rest or for further
exploration. The night will offer an opportunity to learn merengue
and enjoy time with affectionate and hospitable locals.
Day 2.
After a morning visit to the Nation
Park in Cabrito Island, we will take an adventure to the Haitian
Market on the border of Haiti, with a visit to the Magnetic Pole
on the way to the Costa Larimar hotel, where we will sleep one night,
with an all-inclusive plan.
Dinner is served at 7:00PM.
Day 3.
Breakfast is served at the
Costa Larimar Beach Resort. The day
will include a tour of the city of Barahona and a visit to the Larimar
mines.
Day 4.We will
combine one day Cloud
Forest Excursion by Foot or Mule with Enriquillo lake adventure.
Breakfast is served at 7:00 am
and tour will leave for the community of
Cienega, a provice of Barahona, passing
through large coffee, fruit and other agricultural plantations before
arriving to the community of Cachote about 20 Km away. There is
then the option to travel by mule or on foot. The visitor will observe
beautiful panoramic views of the mountains, forsets, and coastline.
You'll also see a diversity of birds, and tropical vegetation such
as bromeliads, orchids, Ebano Verde (only species left in the world
are here). Upon
arriving Cachote, the tour stops at the Nizaito lookout point, where
one can observe all of the mountains that border the most important
river of the municipality of the paradise municipial and enjoy the
cool breezes produced by the mountain wind; There will also be time
to enjoy the hotel facilities.

Checkout at 1:00PM. Departure from the hotel for
Santo Domingo is at 3:00PM, with a 6:00PM arrival time.
